Linen 8" x 10" print of "Two Peas on a page"
Peacocks, with their wild iridescence, dramatic plumes, and regal bearing are familiar pretty much everyone while the European Peacock butterfly is the opposite: unknown to anyone who doesn't chase butterflies despite their own brilliant coloration.
The European peacock, Aglais io, is a strikingly colored butterfly found in Europe and temperate Asia as far east as Japan. In its range it dwells in woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, and gardens. Just like the avian version, this peacock male is territorial towards other males!
As a nerd note, there is much more subtly colored butterfly also called peacock, the White Peacock, that is in an entirely different genus and that ranges from Argentina north through Central America, Mexico, and the West Indies to South Texas and southern Florida with occasional tourists visiting other U.S. locations. Records exist from North Carolina, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, and a handful of other states.
This listing is for an archival ink print on linen paper of the original colored pencil piece. Prints available in other sizes and on other surface options (matte photo paper, glossy paper, etc) by contacting azurineartstudio@gmail.com
